Andrew Pike

“There are no mistakes in art – even accidents are perfect”

Andrew Pike is a founding member of KCAT Studio, where he has worked for over twenty years. He has shown internationally and extensively in Ireland.

Andrew has developed a remarkable body of work across painting, drawing, animation, and sculpture. His work addresses a range of concerns, from the softness of pencil works that celebrate beauty in the natural world to the Monty Pythonesque absurdness and savage satirical edge of animation works exploring human destruction. Deep consideration around the conditions of being an artist is also evident within animation works and through the many of the self portraits he has made throughout his career. Andrew believes artwork is vital in the world and he wants people to understand that making artwork involves working hard and working constantly. He also wants people to understand the importance of artists engaging with what truly motivates them. Most importantly, through his work, he proposes that looking at ourselves in the mirror and laughing at ourselves is the starting point from which we can understand the world and change it for the better.
