Abstraction in Painting

January 9th  to May 29th  –Tuesdays 1.30 pm  to 4.30 pm

Julie Cusack leads this course which looks at abstraction. The sessions include creating and experimenting with a variety of painting surfaces and painting with unconventional tools, such as scrapers, sponges, rollers and rags. You will learn how to embrace the process and language of painting focusing on colour, surface, mark and composition.

The course is suitable for complete beginners but experienced students are also welcome and will be able to refresh their skills or explore new techniques and materials.

An interest in abstract or semi – abstract painting is a must.

Julie will guide you to make abstract work in an intuitive and energetic way with knowledge gained from techniques she shares with you. Julie works individually with each student helping them to develop ideas and processes to access their own personal style which will give them greater confidence in their work.

All materials are provided but students are encouraged to forage and seek out materials which become personal to them and their way of working.
